I went to a clinic in Florida to have my anemia checked. To my surprise, the doctor prescribed vitamin B12. I have no idea that B12 can help treat anemia condition. Thanks to this clinic for the wonderful assistance that they gave me. I will be back there next week for a follow-up.
When you have the dreaded and annoying anemia, your body will not have normal amounts of red blood cells or hemoglobin. Remember the hemoglobin is important for the body and it is the one who will carry the oxygen to all tissues in the body. In here, we will be talking about one type of anemia and that is the Pernicious Anemia.
Defining the Pernicious Anemia
The Pernicious Anemia is a disease where there are large, immature, nucleated cells that will circulate in the blood and do not function as blood cells. It is a disease that is caused by the lack of intake of the vitamin B12 injections for weight loss, which in turn is due to the lack of intrinsic factor or IF in short in the gastric mucosa. It was given the name of pernicious because that before it was learned that vitamin B12 could treat anemia, most people that had it died.
The relation of megaloblastic anemia
In anemia, they are sometimes categorized into sub levels based on the size and microscopic appearance of the red blood cells. Pernicious anemia in this case is a variant of megaloblastic anemia. It refers to an abnormally large type of red blood cell. They are made in the bone marrow when the vitamin B12 or folic acid levels are low.
The causes of Pernicious Anemia
Pernicious anemia is to be considered an autoimmune disease, in which when the human body’s immune system will attack the tissues in the body mistakenly. There are some doctors that believe that the decreased absorption of vitamin B12 from the gastrointestinal tract in pernicious anemia that has resulted from the presence of an autoantibody against the intrinsic factor. It is a protein made in the stomach which is needed for absorbing vitamin B12. In a normal situation, the vitamin will bind to the intrinsic factor in the stomach: this bond will then facilitate the absorption of B12 through the small intestines. Pernicious anemia sometimes is associated with some autoimmune diseases like the Grave’s Disease, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and vitiligo. The latter is also called the blanching of skin areas or depigmentation.
