About

The name of Florida is derived from a Spanish holiday, “Pascua Florida”, which is an occasion that honors the passage of Easter. The French and Spanish fought bitterly for control of the region, and the Spanish eventually cemented their holdings with the establishment of St. Augustine. Forces from St. Augustine routed the French in 1565, executing most of those that were captured. The Florida region remained a firmly Spanish area for many years afterward. The Spanish attempted to convert the local tribes people with Jesuit missionaries, establishing several Missions in the region.

A thriving tourism industry has also become a cornerstone of the Florida economy. The many natural beaches, the Everglades, and the presence of theme parks such as Disneyworld has made Florida a prime tourism destination in the past few decades. In fact, Florida boasts the fourth largest economy in the United States. Agriculture is also a vital industry in Florida, with a great deal of fruit exported every year, especially oranges.

The site is all about Florida. Any mention of the word Florida will be fine.
